Achromatic Waveplate

An achromatic waveplate is a high-performance retarder whose core design goal is to maintain an almost constant phase retardation across a broad wavelength range. It overcomes a major limitation of common zero-order and multi-order waveplates—their strong wavelength dependence. It is typically constructed by cementing two different birefringent materials together. These two materials possess different dispersion characteristics.

  • Ultra-broad bandwidth and exceptional performance stability.

  • High accuracy.

  • High cost and sensitivity to the angle of incidence.
