Paul Prism

The Paul prism essentially consists of two right-angle prisms combined, and its working principle relies on two total internal reflections. It is one of the most critical components in binocular optical instruments (such as binoculars and microscopes), with its main functions being image orientation and optical path extension.

  • Efficient Image Erecting: Perfectly resolves the issue of image inversion.

  • Optical Path Folding: Significantly reduces the physical size of the optical system, enabling a compact design.

  • Requires Precise Alignment: The two prisms must be installed with extremely precise alignment; otherwise, image quality will degrade.
