Zinc selenide (ZnSe) is a high-performance infrared optical material. It offers exceptionally high transmittance in the mid-wave and long-wave infrared regions, making it a core material for CO₂ laser optics and thermal imaging systems. Its most notable features are extremely high transmittance at the 10.6 μm wavelength, very low absorption coefficient, and low thermal lensing effect.
