A polarizing beamsplitter cube (PBS) is a special type of beamsplitter that separates a light beam based on its polarization state. It is structurally similar to a cube beamsplitter, formed by cementing two right-angle prisms together. The key difference lies in the coating on the cemented interface: instead of a standard beamsplitting film, it is coated with a polarizing beamsplitting film. Its core function is to separate a beam of unpolarized or mixed-polarization light into two beams of linearly polarized light with mutually perpendicular vibration directions.
