The equilateral dispersive prism is the most classic and fundamental type of all optical prisms. It typically has no coating and relies on refraction rather than total internal reflection to redirect light. Its core function is not beam steering or reflection, but rather utilizing the phenomenon of dispersion to separate composite light (such as white light) into its constituent spectral colors.
Simple structure: Relatively easy to manufacture and low cost.
High transmittance: Without coatings, light energy loss is minimal within its transmission band.
Non-linear dispersion: The spectrum produced by the prism is non-uniform.
